Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana

Through deep understanding of needs, desires, and expectations, a long and successful partnership.

In 2020, 30 years of uninterrupted partnership between Cankarjev dom and Programski atelje A&Z came full circle. The period of close business collaboration began in 1990, when Cankarjev dom signed a contract for the development and implementation of a computer supported ticket sales system. In autumn 1991, as the first cultural institution in Slovenia, it implemented computer supported ticket sales at its box office. The software, named Kriza'n'Tema (the name was created as a combination of rock'n'roll and Ivan Cankar's White Chrysanthemum), was an incredibly advanced and powerful tool for its time, fully meeting the needs of Cankarjev dom's ticket sales operation. For a good ten years after Cankarjev dom adopted it, Kriza'n'Tema remained the only professional solution on Slovenian ticket sales counters.

From today's perspective, we can evaluate the Kriza'n'Tema program as innovative and pioneering development work in the field of computer supported ticket sales solutions, and at the same time it was the first generation of electronic ticketing solutions designed, shaped, and developed at Programski atelje A&Z. The second generation, SI Ticketing System (SiTi), was in use from around 2000 to 2008. The third generation, DRAGON Venue, was in use from 2009 to about 2015 and helped the company enter international markets. The fourth generation, the advanced, multi purpose, integrated platform marketed under the mojekarte brand, is the most widely used marketing and sales support tool for the events, experiences, and entertainment industry in the broader region.

"The solution we began using for ticket sales at Cankarjev dom in the 1991/92 season was one of the very few operating in Europe at the time. During meetings and exchanges with other directors of European cultural houses, I discovered that Cankarjev dom was breaking new ground not only in Slovenia but also in Europe, as the vast majority of European cultural houses at that time were selling tickets manually. Many colleagues who tried to introduce computer programs and modernize ticket sales in their houses were disappointed and returned to the proven method of manual work due to bad experiences." "We did not have such unpleasant experiences, quite the opposite. Everything worked well in our house, and few believed me when I said we had no problems and that the Cankarjev dom box office sold tickets exclusively with the help of a computer program."
